FlightScope Mevo Gen2 Software Update Makes Setup Effortless
Jay Lasco of Golf Simulator Videos recently broke down the newest software update to the FlightScope Mevo Gen2, which is designed to completely eliminate human setup errors and help you keep your data as accurate as possible – particularly when using the unit indoors.

The Core Updates: Ball Flight and Placement Detection
Lasco began his analysis by pointing out that the software has just received a big boost for user friendliness.
"The FlightScope Mevo Gen2 just got a really nice firmware and software update that you're going to want to know about, specifically regarding both ball flight detection and ball placement detection,” he said.
Lasco explained exactly why these matter for users, particularly indoors:
"If you accidentally have the unit set up to where it expects to see a long flight, but you're actually only about 10 feet from the ball to your screen, it's going to know that the ball flight is wrong. It will then get you back into the proper mode so you can set it up correctly."
Beyond ball flight tracking, ensuring your golf ball is placed within the radar’s hitting area is very important to ensure you get the most accurate and consistent data possible.
"Ball placement detection, in my opinion, is one of the most important features because I think this is where a lot of people lose their accuracy," said Lasco.
Real-World Testing: Pushing the Limits
To prove his point, Lasco established a baseline swing from the optimal hitting location.
"As you can see, I just hit a ball dead center from my tee position, and it takes off dead center.”
He then intentionally placed the ball outside the hitting area and hit a shot.
"Now, let's push this a little bit. I don't know if this is going to be completely outside of the range, but I want to demonstrate this. It's either going to give me an alert, or it's going to show the ball taking off left of the center. Let's see."
As expected, hitting a shot from outside the optimal hitting area instantly triggered the software's new defensive guardrails.
"And it did. It just pushed it outside the unit's tracking. It takes off left of the target line, but now the system is saying 'ball position out of range.' Because I was just outside of the ideal range, it warns you. You can move the ball back inside the range, and once you do that, it's going to show where that ball took off from – dead center of the tee position – and it will automatically continue."
Next, he decided to test spatial depth errors by hitting shots outside of the Mevo Gen2’s optimal placement of 8ft directly behind the ball.
"This is also going to happen if you get too close to the unit. Let's move very close to the unit here – too close – and hit another shot. You're going to see that the blue dot is all the way at the bottom. I mean, I was way too close on that one; I was almost two feet behind the hitting zone."
Even with the ball sitting far too close to the unit, the Mevo Gen2 still tracked perfectly, though it flagged the user to correct the error.
"What's cool is that it can still read the ball, but now it's going to warn you. The unit is very capable of reading the ball, but you really want to make sure that it's in the ideal hitting zone for the best accuracy," Lasco emphasized.
Environment and Setup Optimization
To close out his review, Lasco outlined the physical steps users can take to get the most accurate numbers from their Mevo Gen2 indoors.
"Lighting is also important when utilizing Fusion technology with radar. You want to make sure the lighting is good indoors so that your Mevo Gen2’s camera is working at its best. Personally, I like a flat, level surface, and I'm using an RCT ball for the best spin readings. All these things matter, and when you do them, you're going to get really good results."
Lasco wrapped up his session with a final pure strike:
"Let's go ahead and hit one final shot from the center. Look at that – over 10,000 spin with a wedge right down the middle!"
